“Healthy living” – Interview with the finalists of the KUKA Innovation Award 2019
Whether as an assistant to the surgeon in operations, in hospital logistics or as a helper in rehabilitation measures: Robotics will play an increasingly important role in healthcare. And it is precisely this future topic that is the focus of this year’s KUKA Innovation Award. We talked to the finalists about robotics in medicine.
“Healthy Living” is this year’s topic of KUKA’s annual innovation competition. Around 30 research teams from all over the world had applied with their concepts on the subject of “Healthy Living”. The applicants were asked to develop an innovative concept with a KUKA LBR Med lightweight robot for use in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. An international jury selected the five best concepts.
About the KUKA Innovation Award 2019
To implement their concepts, KUKA provides a KUKA lightweight robot and a 3D vision system from Roboception free of charge to the selected finalists throughout the competition period. This year, it is possible for the first time to use the LBR Med, the medical version of the sensitive lightweight robot. The LBR Med is the first robotic component worldwide to be certified for integration into medical products. In addition, the final teams will receive free training for the hardware as well as coaching by KUKA experts during the whole competition.
The highlight of the competition is the final presentation at the biggest medical fair, the MEDICA 2019. Here, the finalist will present their solutions to the public, an expert audience, the media and of course the judges, to determine the winner of €20,000 prize money.
By the way: until January 5, 2020, talents from all over the world can still apply for the KUKA Innovation Award 2020, which has the motto “Medical Robotics Challenge”. You can find all the information you need on our website.
